Calling the Library

Do me a favor, ok? When you call up the the library, looking to put a few books on hold, have your card in front of you! Is that so difficult? Do you try and buy things online without your credit card? Do you go to the liquor store without your ID? It seems like half the people that call the library act surprised when I ask them for the barcode number printed on the back of their library card.

Of course, I don't know if I have any friends who use the public library, so what do you care? I know my brother, my mom, and, of course, my librarian friends are regular users. Shannon Gahagan used to check out quite a few books from the St Paul Public Library, but I only see her about once a year nowadays. I wonder if any of my peeps in Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, L.A., San Diego, Phoenix, Denver, Des Moines, the Twin Cities, or D.C. even have library cards...

Well, Mr. Moore, it is nice to see that individual library patron’s activities are monitored so closely by staff. For the record, I have a brand new beautiful blue and yellow library card from the Arlington Heights Library. It is only about 1 1/2 blocks from our new house, and I was just in there on Saturday to use the internet and check out 2 DVD's. "Big Fish" and "The Curse of the Jade Scorpion", but you probably already know that...now that you have this blog, I can keep tabs on you as well...give you a taste of your own medicine! Ms. Gahagan

Wow, all I have to do is drop a name, and I get a response. Pretty cool!

I'm glad to see you're still using SPPL, Ms. Gahagan. You're the apple of my eye. Or something like that. It makes me happy that one of my friends takes advantage of the resources offered by the public library.

I just returned two books on CD to my county library. The county library here is way crappier than the city library. Worse material, worse quality etc...
I listened to "Anil's Ghost" by Michael, not sre how you spell, Ojandte, and "The Body Artist" by Don Dillilo. I would actually recommend "The Body Artist", typical Dillilo impressionism and skewed psycological expression.
I am a huge library guy, it seems like one of the few places left where you can get a benificial service for free. It seems like everywhere else in the country is trying to screw me over with overpriced product or astronomical fees attached. The postal service is pretty cool too.

But Steve, I wasn't really talking about using the library solely for the free access to porn.

I'm aware that you are a big fan of public libraries, I just wasn't sure if you were much of a library user.

And to answer your question- yes, I would like to see your Mulnomah County library card.
